Who are we?

We are Team Q-Botix, the official Robocon team of Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, India established in 2022 under our student innovation forum. What began as a small group of curious minds has now grown into a multidisciplinary team of young engineers, united by a shared passion for building purposeful, high-performance robots.

Our team is structured into four core technical domains:

  • Mechanical Design and Fabrication – for precision-driven mechanisms, mobility systems and robot fabrication
  • Electrocore – to perform efficient Power management, Wire harnessing, Embedded Systems and PCB design
  • AI – handling object detection, decision-making, and trajectory prediction
  • ROS (Robot Operating System) – enabling autonomous control and sensor fusion

In just two years, we've combined innovation, teamwork, and technical depth to rise among the top student robotics teams in India. We’re proud to have achieved an All India Rank of 17 (AIR 17) in DD Robocon 2024, standing out among 100+ engineering institutions across the country.

At Q-Botix, we believe in learning by doing – pushing boundaries through hands-on experimentation, rigorous testing, and continuous improvement. Every robot we build reflects our commitment to engineering excellence, creativity, and collaboration.

What Is Our Project About?

This year, we are inspired to participate in ABU Robocon 2025, aiming to clear the DD Robocon Nationals in India. Our project involves building two intelligent semi-autonomous robots to play a fast-paced game of "Robot Basketball" focusing on precision, coordination, and real-time control.

Robocon 2025 Theme

ABU Robocon 2025 is hosted by Mongolia, and the theme for this year is “Robot Basketball”. The competition draws inspiration from the globally loved sport of basketball, challenging participants to recreate its excitement and teamwork through robotics.

Teams are required to build two robots that must work together to complete a series of basketball-related tasks within a time-bound match (120s). The robots must perform actions such as:

  • Smooth locomotion
  • Dribbling
  • Shooting
  • Dunk shooting - Jump and shoot
  • Passing between robots

Power & Control Systems

Our robots for Robocon 2025 are equipped with high-performance power and computing units to perform complex semi-autonomous basketball tasks such as shooting, passing, zone-based scoring, and defense.

Power Unit:

Each robot is powered using LiPo batteries, supplying stable and sufficient current to drive motors, actuators, sensors, and processors during intense gameplay conditions.

Control & Computing Unit:

  • ESP32 is used as the embedded controller to manage motor drivers, sensor interfaces, and low-level control tasks.
  • Jetson Orin Nano, coupled with the ZED 2i stereo camera, handles advanced AI tasks such as vision processing, object detection, and real-time decision-making using deep learning models.

 Why We Need Custom PCBs

To ensure reliable and efficient operation of our robots, we require custom-designed PCBs that serve critical roles in:

  • Power Distribution Management: Regulating and safely delivering power from LiPo batteries to various subsystems
  • Control Circuit Integration: Enabling communication between the ESP32, motor drivers, sensors, and actuators
  • Compact and Robust Layouts: Reducing wiring complexity, improving durability, and simplifying maintenance
  • Signal Integrity & Safety: Isolating high-current paths, protecting sensitive components, and minimizing interference

Why Did We Decide to Make It?

Our decision to take on the ABU Robocon 2025 challenge is driven by a deep passion for robotics and an unshakable commitment to represent our institution and country on the international stage. The moment the Robot Basketball theme was announced, we knew this was our opportunity to push our limits — not just as engineers, but as innovators, collaborators, and problem-solvers.

This project demands everything we’ve got — from precision mechanics and embedded control to real-time AI and autonomous decision-making. But it’s exactly this complexity that excites us. We’re determined to bring this vision to life, despite the challenges, because we believe in what we’re building. Our robots are a reflection of our skills, sleepless nights, relentless testing, and unbreakable teamwork.

We’re not just participating — we’re striving to win, to learn, and to inspire. And for that, we’re giving it everything we have.

Why We Need PCBWay

As a student robotics team working toward an ambitious goal on an international stage, precision, reliability, and quality are at the heart of everything we build. Our robots rely heavily on custom-designed PCBs for power management and control — and that’s where PCBWay’s expertise matters most.

We’re seeking PCBWay’s support because:

  • PCBWay delivers industry-grade manufacturing that ensures the durability and performance our robots demand during high-stress match conditions
  • With tight timelines and iterative prototyping, PCBWay’s fast turnaround and assembly services would help us rapidly test, validate, and deploy new designs
  • As students, budget constraints are real — sponsorship from PCBWay would empower us to allocate resources effectively while still ensuring professional-grade builds
  • Collaborating with a global leader like PCBWay aligns perfectly with our commitment to engineering excellence and innovation

With PCBWay as our sponsor, we can confidently move forward in building robust, competition-ready PCBs that power our journey to Robocon 2025.
