Founded in 2005 out of a passion for motorsport, Salento Racing Team embodies the dedication and enthusiasm of young students of University of Salento, engaged in the design and construction of racing car prototypes.

Since building its first vehicle in 2006, SRT has achieved remarkable results in Formula SAE competitions, including:

  • 1st place in the Cost Event and 3rd place in the Business Plan Event, Formula SAE Italy 2024;
  • 2nd place in the Business Plan Event, Formula SAE Italy 2023;

The Team is organized into several work groups, including the Electrical & PDA Group, which is mainly responsible for:

  • Designing and assembling high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) battery packs;
  • Designing and manufacturing PCBs essential for the vehicle’s operation, with meticulous attention to detail to ensure maximum efficiency;
  • Developing MCU-based code to create a precise and high-performance control system;

The Electric & PDA group, through the use of PCBs, enables the management of all vehicle signals. In particular, the VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) of the electric car has been designed using a Teensy 4.1 mounted on a PCB, which gathers and routes all the vehicle’s control signals, processing them to respond accordingly. A Voltage Indicator board has also been developed to inform operators whether high voltage is present inside the vehicle, along with other boards such as the Precharge Board, Discharge Board, Cockpit Board, BSPD Board, and more.

The Team’s future goals include:

  • Participating in international competitions in addition to the Italian round
  • Optimizing resources and production processes
  • Enhancing vehicles for data collection and analysis, aimed at the design and development of a hybrid vehicle

Collaboration with PCBWay would provide our team with valuable support in the design and manufacturing of PCBs, allowing us to optimize them to the fullest and improve the overall performance of our electric vehicle prototype, with the goal of achieving outstanding results in the Formula SAE 2026 competitions.

We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with PCBWay and achieve our goals through their support.
