Rover for environmental monitoring and assessment.
The mexican team Cuauhtémoc IPN proposes the development of a rover-type payload capable of automatically returning to a starting point after launch while collecting and transmitting environmental data in fire-affected areas, generating a useful database for analyzing and understanding environmental conditions during these events. The system is based on a modular chassis with a modified rocker-bogie suspension, designed for operations in harsh and difficult-to-access environments. The rover incorporates cameras and sensors for gases, particulate matter, volatile compounds, humidity, pressure, and temperature that allow for environmental characterization. Locomotion is controlled by gearmotors, while orientation and navigation are achieved using GPS, magnetic field, ultrasonic, and distance sensors. The communication link is established via LoRa radios to a ground station, ensuring real-time data reception over long distances.
This proyect is fully developed by students and its creation is for participation at national and international competitions (actually ENMICE 2025 at México) and spatial diffusion events for engineering and profesional formation. We would like and greatly appreciate help with the chassis and suspension systemes, with aluminum manufacture. Our proyect was tested and FEM analized to demonstrate that it works with this material. Thank you so much.
The needed parts are the following:
Chassis: The rover's main structure on which the other subsystems are integrated. Its design was based on a European projection system, prioritizing the visibility of the sections in the isometric view. The following images show its geometry and main anchor points.
Suspension: The mechanism responsible for absorbing uneven terrain and maintaining the rover's stability. It was designed to adapt to different mission conditions, ensuring even load distribution and constant wheel contact with the surface.
A) Chassis: single Aluminum 6061 2mm plate cut on CNC.

B) Suspension: every single part of the two suspensions (one for each side) made of Aluminum 6061 cut on CNC or AlSi10Mg 3D printed.

Next: Some photos and video of our proyect testings and first assembly.
