Penn Electric Racing | REV11
Penn Electric Racing (PER) is the University of Pennsylvania’s Formula SAE Electric Team. We are focused on cultivating the next generation of talented engineers and leaders while simultaneously striving to seize the top spots at the annual Formula SAE Electric Competition.
Founded in 1978 by the Society of Automotive Engineers, Formula SAE now hosts global competitions with hundreds of teams participating worldwide. PER competes in the FSAE Electric category in North America, in which just under 100 teams from several continents participate.
This past season, over 100 team members worked diligently across our 4 subteams (Mechanical, Electrical Hardware, Electrical Software, and Operations). Together, from collaborating throughout the school year to attending competitions, PER has nurtured a profound camaraderie with an unwavering spirit of unity among its members.
Our team boasts an impressive motorsport legacy, building solar cars in the 90s, gas race cars in the early 2000s, and an electric dragster and scooter in the early 2010s. Since transitioning to building electric race cars in 2013, we have become one of the most successful teams in North America, winning an impressive 41 trophies. We have even held the North American EV 0-60mph acceleration record of 2.65 seconds!
REVX Custom Electrical System
Our electrical team designs its own custom PCBs each year, including 20 custom designs and 34 total PCBs on the vehicle. Handling almost all electrical systems on the car – powertrain control, power distribution, data acquisition, battery management, and many others – we are proud to have such a comprehensive student-designed architecture powering our racecar.
REVX Integration Testing
Throughout the season, we prototype new schematics, validate designs, and integrate systems to ensure reliability and ever-improving performance. With the upcoming 2025-2026 vehicle REV11, we are excited to once again take to new heights in implementing a new LV architecture and fast-paced timeline.
