ANNA Rocket Computer
ANNA Rocket Computer
Last year, in 2024, I started working on a long term project : launching a rocket from a high-altitude balloon. To accomplish this mission, I needed to make a rocket computer for a model rocket. Therefore, I developed a computer that can work in incredibly low temperatures, be cost-efficient, and record and transmit orientation, acceleration, temperature, and pressure.
While working on the project, I realized that rocket computers currently on the market are bulky, costly, and very inefficient for model rocketry. I decided to share my rocket computer so that amateur rocketeers can use it for tracking their rockets and getting data from them.
The ANNA rocket computer is a small and powerful onboard computer equipped with an environmental sensor, 3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer. It includes an SD card for storage and a radio module capable of transmitting data up to 15 km.
Microcontroller: ATSAMD21G18A-A
Radio Module: SX1262 – Long-range, LoRa-based radio operating in the 915 MHz band
Environmental Sensor: BME280 – Measures temperature, pressure, and humidity
IMU: ICM-20948 – Provides 3D orientation and acceleration data
Voltage Regulation: AMS1117-3.3 – 3.3V linear regulator
Storage: MEM2061-01-188-00-A_REVA microSD slotMEM2061-01-188-00-A_REVA microSD slot
Future iterations will include pyro channels and GPS for active control and location tracking of the rocket.
PCBWay offers support to aspiring engineers and helps them turn ideas into reality. Sponsorship from PCBWay would allow for rapid assembly of prototypes and testing. Timing is crucial in testing, as it often takes weeks to receive parts and PCBs. Financial support would also be extremely helpful. As a high school student, electronics and PCBs are expensive, and funding from PCBWay would enable me to proceed with my project.
I'm excited to collaborate with PCBWay on this mission to create an affordable and reliable rocket computer for amateur rocketeers.
